(S)-1-acetyl-4-isobutylpyrrolidin-2-one, also known as S-AIBP, is a chemical compound that is commonly used in the pharmaceutical industry. It is a chiral molecule, meaning it has a mirror image that is not superimposable on itself. The (S) form of the molecule is the active form and is therefore the one that is used in medicinal applications.
S-AIBP works as a potent inhibitor of the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV), which is involved in the breakdown of incretin hormones. These hormones help to regulate blood glucose levels by stimulating insulin secretion and reducing glucagon release. By inhibiting DPP-IV, S-AIBP can increase the levels of these hormones, leading to improved glucose control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
In addition to its medicinal uses, S-AIBP is also used as a chiral building block in organic synthesis. Its unique chiral structure makes it a useful starting material for the synthesis of other chiral compounds.
Chemically, S-AIBP is a pyrrolidinone derivative with a molecular formula of C11H19NO2. It has a melting point of 72-76°C and a boiling point of 285-286°C. It is a white to off-white crystalline powder that is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and acetone.
