(R)-2-((tert-Butoxycarbonyl)amino)-2-phenylethyl methanesulfonate, also known as Boc-phenylalanine mesylate, is a chemical compound used in peptide synthesis. It is a white crystalline powder that is soluble in organic solvents such as dichloromethane and dimethylformamide.
This compound is commonly used as a protecting group for the amino acid phenylalanine in peptide synthesis. The tert-butoxycarbonyl (Boc) group is used to protect the amino group of phenylalanine, preventing unwanted reactions during peptide synthesis. This group can be easily removed under mild conditions, allowing for the desired peptide to be synthesized.
In addition to its use in peptide synthesis, (R)-2-((tert-Butoxycarbonyl)amino)-2-phenylethyl methanesulfonate has been studied for its potential as an anti-cancer agent. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells and induce cell death in vitro.
