21-Desoxycortisol-[d4] usage and description
21-Desoxycortisol-[d4] is a synthetic steroid hormone that is used in various biochemical and clinical research applications. It is a stable isotope-labeled derivative of the natural hormone 21-Desoxycortisol, also known as cortisone. This compound is used as a tracer or internal standard in mass spectrometry-based assays to analyze the levels of cortisone in biological samples, such as blood, urine, or saliva.
Chemically, 21-Desoxycortisol-[d4] is a deuterated analog of 21-Desoxycortisol, which means that four hydrogen atoms are replaced by deuterium atoms. This modification does not affect the biological activity of the compound but allows for accurate quantification and detection of cortisone levels in complex biological matrices. The deuterium substitution shifts the molecular weight of 21-Desoxycortisol-[d4] by four atomic mass units, which simplifies the analysis and improves the sensitivity and specificity of the assay.
In addition to its use as a research tool, 21-Desoxycortisol-[d4] has potential clinical applications in the diagnosis and monitoring of adrenal gland disorders, such as Addison's disease or Cushing's syndrome. These conditions are characterized by abnormal levels of cortisone and other steroid hormones, which can lead to various symptoms and complications. By measuring the levels of cortisone in patients' samples using 21-Desoxycortisol-[d4] as a reference, physicians can diagnose and manage these conditions more accurately and effectively.
