10-Deacetyl Paclitaxel usage and description
10-Deacetyl Paclitaxel is a semi-synthetic derivative of Paclitaxel, which is a natural compound obtained from the bark of the Pacific yew tree. It is an important chemical compound used in the treatment of cancer, especially ovarian, breast, and lung cancer. Like Paclitaxel, 10-Deacetyl Paclitaxel works by inhibiting the microtubule disassembly process, which is necessary for cell division. This causes the cancer cells to stop dividing and ultimately die.
10-Deacetyl Paclitaxel is used in combination with other chemotherapeutic drugs, such as carboplatin or cisplatin, to enhance its effectiveness. The drug is administered intravenously and has a long half-life, which means it remains in the body for a longer period, allowing for less frequent dosing.
In terms of chemical information, 10-Deacetyl Paclitaxel has a molecular weight of 853.92 g/mol and a chemical formula of C47H51NO14. It has a white to off-white color and is sparingly soluble in water but highly soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and methanol.
Like all chemotherapeutic drugs, 10-Deacetyl Paclitaxel has some side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, hair loss, and decreased white blood cell count. However, its therapeutic benefits outweigh its side effects, making it an important drug in cancer treatment.
