Desloratadine-d4 usage and description
Desloratadine D4 is a deuterated form of the antihistamine drug desloratadine, which is used to treat symptoms of allergic reactions, such as sneezing, itching, and runny nose. It works by blocking the action of histamine, a chemical released by the body during an allergic reaction. Desloratadine D4 has the same pharmacological properties as the non-deuterated form, but with the addition of four deuterium atoms, which can be used for pharmacokinetic studies.
Desloratadine D4 is typically administered orally, in the form of tablets or syrup. The recommended dosage for adults is 5 mg once daily, while children aged 6-11 years should take 2.5 mg once daily. It is important to follow the dosage instructions provided by your doctor and to avoid exceeding the recommended dose.
From a chemical perspective, Desloratadine D4 is a white to off-white crystalline powder with a molecular formula of C19H17D4ClN2O2 and a molecular weight of 327.88 g/mol. It is structurally similar to desloratadine, which has the molecular formula C19H19ClN2O2 and a molecular weight of 310.8 g/mol. The addition of deuterium atoms to Desloratadine D4 results in a slight increase in molecular weight and a shift in the mass spectrum, which can be used to differentiate it from the non-deuterated form in pharmacokinetic studies. Overall, Desloratadine D4 is a useful tool for researchers studying the pharmacokinetics of desloratadine and its metabolism in the body.
