Amantadine-d6 usage and description
Amantadine D6 is a deuterated form of the antiviral medication, Amantadine. It is used to treat and prevent influenza A virus infections in adults. Additionally, it is also used as an adjunct therapy for the treatment of Parkinson's disease.
Amantadine D6 works by inhibiting the activity of the M2 protein channel found on the surface of the influenza A virus. This prevents the virus from replicating and spreading to other cells, thereby reducing the severity and duration of the infection. In Parkinson's disease, Amantadine D6 works by increasing the levels of dopamine in the brain, which helps to improve the symptoms of the disease.
The chemical formula of Amantadine D6 is C10H18D6N, with a molecular weight of 170.33 g/mol. It is a white crystalline powder that is soluble in water and slightly soluble in ethanol. The deuterated form of Amantadine is used in scientific research to study the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of the drug, as well as to investigate its mechanism of action.
In terms of dosage, the recommended dose of Amantadine D6 for the treatment of influenza A virus infection is 200 mg daily for adults, while the recommended dose for Parkinson's disease is 100-300 mg daily. As with all medications, it is important to follow the prescribed dosage and consult with a healthcare professional if there are any concerns or side effects.
