Azilsartan-d4 usage and description
Azilsartan D4 is a deuterated version of the anti-hypertensive drug Azilsartan, which is primarily used for the treatment of high blood pressure. Azilsartan D4 is a selective angiotensin II type 1 receptor blocker, which means it blocks the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II. This results in the relaxation of blood vessels and a decrease in blood pressure.
The chemical formula of Azilsartan D4 is C25H18D4N4O5, with a molecular weight of 470.54 g/mol. The drug is typically administered orally in the form of tablets, with a recommended dosage of 40mg once a day. Azilsartan D4 is metabolized in the liver and excreted through the kidneys.
Studies have shown that Azilsartan D4 has a longer half-life and greater bioavailability than non-deuterated Azilsartan, which allows for a more consistent and effective treatment of hypertension. It has also been shown to be effective in reducing urinary albumin excretion, which is a marker of kidney damage in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Like all medications, Azilsartan D4 can have potential side effects including dizziness, fatigue, headache, and gastrointestinal disturbances. It is important to consult with a healthcare professional before taking Azilsartan D4, especially if one has a history of liver or kidney disease, or if they are pregnant or breastfeeding.
