2-Deoxy-D-ribose-5,5'-d2 usage and description
2-Deoxy-D-ribose-5,5'-d2 is a deuterated analog of 2-deoxy-D-ribose, which is a sugar molecule that is commonly found in DNA. This compound is also known as 2-deoxy-D-ribose-5,5'-bis(trideuteromethyl) and has a molecular weight of 156.23 g/mol. The deuterium atoms in this compound replace the hydrogen atoms in the 5th and 5th' positions, resulting in a slightly heavier molecule with altered physical and chemical properties.
The primary use of 2-Deoxy-D-ribose-5,5'-d2 is in biochemical and pharmaceutical research. It is used as an isotopic tracer in studies of DNA synthesis and metabolism, as well as in the synthesis of deuterated nucleosides and their analogs. This compound is also used in the development of drugs that target DNA replication and repair, as well as in the development of diagnostic tools for diseases such as cancer and viral infections.
In terms of its chemical properties, 2-Deoxy-D-ribose-5,5'-d2 is a white to off-white crystalline powder that is soluble in water and most organic solvents. It is stable under normal conditions of use and storage, but can be sensitive to heat and light. This compound is generally considered to be non-toxic and non-hazardous, but should be handled with care by trained professionals using appropriate safety precautions.
