6-Deschloro Cyproterone Acetate usage and description
6-Deschloro Cyproterone Acetate is a synthetic steroidal antiandrogen drug that is used primarily in the treatment of prostate cancer, hirsutism, acne, and other conditions related to androgen excess. It is a derivative of cyproterone acetate, which is a more potent antiandrogen.
This compound works by blocking the effects of androgens, which are male hormones that are responsible for the development and maintenance of male characteristics. It does this by binding to the androgen receptors in the body, preventing the androgens from binding and exerting their effects. This leads to a reduction in the size and activity of the prostate gland, as well as a decrease in the production of sebum, the oily substance that contributes to acne.
6-Deschloro Cyproterone Acetate is typically administered orally in the form of tablets. It is metabolized in the liver and excreted in the urine. The recommended dosage for prostate cancer is 100-200 mg per day, while for hirsutism and acne, it is typically 10-50 mg per day.
While this compound is generally considered safe and effective for its intended uses, it may cause side effects such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, breast tenderness or enlargement, and liver toxicity. It may also interact with other medications, so it is important to consult with a healthcare provider before taking this drug.
