Flunixin D3 usage and description
Flunixin D3 is a derivative of flunixin, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is commonly used in veterinary medicine to treat pain and inflammation in horses and cattle. It works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, which are responsible for causing pain and inflammation.
Flunixin D3 is a deuterated form of flunixin, which means that it contains three hydrogen atoms that have been replaced by deuterium atoms. This modification can improve the drug's pharmacokinetic properties, such as its absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion, which can lead to better efficacy and safety.
The chemical formula of Flunixin D3 is C14H10D3F3N2O2, and its molecular weight is 294.30 g/mol. It is a white to off-white crystalline powder that is soluble in water and ethanol.
Flunixin D3 is typically administered intravenously or intramuscularly, and its dosage depends on the animal's weight, condition, and response to treatment. It is commonly used to treat conditions such as colic, lameness, fever, and endotoxemia in horses, and respiratory and musculoskeletal disorders in cattle.
Like other NSAIDs, Flunixin D3 can cause side effects such as gastrointestinal ulcers, renal and hepatic dysfunction, and bleeding disorders. Therefore, it should only be used under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian and with caution in animals with preexisting medical conditions.
