Fosfomycin Glycolic usage and description
Fosfomycin Glycolic is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is commonly used in the treatment of bacterial infections. It is primarily used to treat urinary tract infections caused by E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus, among other bacteria. Fosfomycin Glycolic works by inhibiting the production of bacterial cell walls, which prevents the bacteria from multiplying and spreading.
Fosfomycin Glycolic is available in both oral and injectable forms, and it is typically administered once or twice daily. The dosage and duration of treatment will depend on the severity of the infection and the patient's overall health. It is important to take the full course of antibiotics as prescribed, even if symptoms improve before the medication is finished.
Chemically, Fosfomycin Glycolic is a phosphonic acid derivative with a molecular formula of C3H7O4P. It is a white crystalline powder that is highly soluble in water. Fosfomycin Glycolic is typically administered as a salt, with the most common salt being Fosfomycin Tromethamine.
While Fosfomycin Glycolic is generally considered safe and effective, it may cause some side effects in certain patients. These can include nausea, diarrhea, headaches, and allergic reactions. Patients with kidney disease or liver disease may require special monitoring while taking Fosfomycin Glycolic.
