Mono-POC Isopropyl Tenofovir usage and description
Mono-POC Isopropyl Tenofovir is a potent nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor that is used for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. It is a prodrug of tenofovir, which is converted into its active form, tenofovir diphosphate, in vivo. Mono-POC Isopropyl Tenofovir is designed to have improved pharmacokinetic properties, which allows for once-daily dosing and better patient compliance.
Chemically, Mono-POC Isopropyl Tenofovir is an ester of isopropyl alcohol and tenofovir. The isopropyl group in the molecule enhances its lipophilicity, which allows for better absorption and distribution in the body. The prodrug is rapidly hydrolyzed by esterases in the blood, releasing tenofovir.
Tenofovir diphosphate inhibits the activity of reverse transcriptase, which is essential for the replication of HIV-1. It competes with the natural substrate, deoxyadenosine triphosphate, and incorporates itself into the growing DNA chain, leading to chain termination. Tenofovir diphosphate also inhibits the activity of viral DNA polymerase, which further reduces viral replication.
Mono-POC Isopropyl Tenofovir is administered orally and is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. It has a long half-life of approximately 17 hours, which allows for once-daily dosing. The drug is primarily eliminated via the kidneys, and dosage adjustments are necessary in patients with renal impairment. Overall, Mono-POC Isopropyl Tenofovir is an effective and well-tolerated treatment for HIV-1 infection.
