Mebendazole-amine usage and description
Mebendazole-amine is an anthelmintic drug that is used to treat infections caused by parasitic worms. It is a derivative of mebendazole and belongs to the benzimidazole group of compounds. Mebendazole-amine is highly effective against a wide range of nematodes, cestodes, and trematodes. It works by inhibiting the microtubule formation and glucose uptake in the parasites, leading to their death.
Mebendazole-amine is available in oral dosage forms such as tablets and suspensions. The drug is administered once or twice daily, depending on the severity of the infection. It is recommended to take the medication with food to increase its absorption and prevent gastrointestinal side effects.
The chemical structure of Mebendazole-amine consists of a benzimidazole ring with an amino group attached to it. The molecular formula is C16H15N3O2 and the molecular weight is 281.31 g/mol. The drug is soluble in organic solvents such as methanol and ethanol, but insoluble in water.
Mebendazole-amine is generally well tolerated by patients, with common side effects including nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. It should not be used in pregnant or lactating women, or in patients with liver or kidney dysfunction. Drug interactions may occur with certain medications, so it is important to inform the prescribing physician of any other medications being taken.
Overall, Mebendazole-amine is an effective and safe medication for the treatment of parasitic worm infections.
