rac 1,2-Bis-palmitoyl-3-chloropropanediol-d5 usage and description
Rac 1,2-Bis-palmitoyl-3-chloropropanediol-d5, also known as DPPC-d5, is a deuterated form of 1,2-bis(palmitoyl)-3-chloropropanediol (DPPC). DPPC is a type of phospholipid that is commonly found in biological membranes, particularly in lung surfactants.
DPPC-d5 is often used in scientific studies as a tracer or marker in lipid metabolism research. Its deuterated form allows for easy tracking and identification within complex lipid mixtures, as deuterium has a different mass than hydrogen and can be easily detected using mass spectrometry. This makes DPPC-d5 a valuable tool in lipidomics research, which focuses on the study of lipids and their biological functions within cells and organisms.
In addition to its use in research, DPPC-d5 also has potential therapeutic applications. Studies have shown that DPPC-d5 can improve respiratory function in patients with lung diseases such as cystic fibrosis and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). This is because DPPC-d5 can mimic the natural lung surfactant, which helps to reduce surface tension in the lungs and improve breathing.
In terms of chemical information, DPPC-d5 has a molecular weight of 716.1 g/mol and a chemical formula of C40H74ClO4D5. It is a white to off-white solid that is soluble in chloroform and other organic solvents. DPPC-d5 should be handled with care as it is toxic if ingested, inhaled or absorbed through the skin.
