Deuterium-labeled compounds used in analytical and research laboratories
Products and applications

Deuterium-Labeled Compounds

Stable-isotope-labelled molecules for quantitative analysis, structure and metabolism research, synthesis and drug-development programs.

Definition

What does deuterium-labeled mean?

A deuterium-labeled compound has one or more hydrogen atoms replaced by deuterium, the stable heavy isotope of hydrogen. A label such as d3 or d6 indicates the nominal number of deuterium atoms, but it does not by itself state their positions, atom-% enrichment or isotopologue distribution. Those details belong in the product specification and characterization data.

Product families

Different materials for different questions

Internal standards

Mass-shifted analogues used to correct for sample preparation and instrument variation in quantitative methods.

Reference materials

Characterized materials used for identity, method development, calibration or comparison, according to their stated qualification.

Metabolites and impurities

Labelled versions used in pathway research, peak assignment, response studies and analytical investigations.

Reagents

Deuterated solvents and reactants selected as isotope sources or functional inputs to a synthesis.

Intermediates

Labelled building blocks that carry the required isotope pattern into a later-stage molecule.

APIs

Drug substances with defined deuterium incorporation that require chemical, isotopic, process and quality control.

Technical review

How to evaluate a labelled compound

AttributeWhat to confirmReason
IdentityName, structure, CAS number and catalogue numberAvoids ambiguity between related isotopologues or regioisomers.
Label positionExact deuterated sites and exchange liabilityDetermines whether the material answers the intended analytical or research question.
Isotopic profileAtom-% D and relevant isotopologue distributionDescribes isotope incorporation more accurately than the d-number alone.
Chemical qualityPurity, assay and relevant impuritiesChemical purity and isotopic enrichment are separate attributes.
FormatNeat or solution, concentration, amount and storageEnsures compatibility with preparation, stability and handling.
DocumentationCOA, characterization and intended qualificationEvidence should match the laboratory use and quality system.
