Bosentan-13C6 usage and description
Bosentan is a medication used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and is marketed under the brand name Tracleer. Bosentan 13C6 is a stable isotope-labeled form of Bosentan that is used for pharmacokinetic, metabolic, and toxicology studies.
Bosentan is classified as an endothelin receptor antagonist, which means that it blocks the action of endothelin, a peptide hormone that causes constriction of blood vessels and increased blood pressure. By blocking the action of endothelin, Bosentan can dilate blood vessels and reduce the workload on the heart, improving symptoms of PAH.
Bosentan is absorbed rapidly after oral administration and undergoes extensive metabolism in the liver. Bosentan 13C6 is used in studies to determine the metabolic pathways of Bosentan and its metabolites, as well as to quantify the drug in biological samples.
Chemically, Bosentan 13C6 is identical to Bosentan, except that six carbon atoms in the molecule are labeled with the stable isotope carbon-13. This labeling does not change the pharmacological properties of Bosentan, but it allows for more accurate analysis of the drug in biological samples.
Overall, Bosentan 13C6 is an important tool for studying the pharmacokinetics and metabolism of Bosentan, which can lead to a better understanding of how the drug works and how it can be used more effectively in the treatment of PAH.
