Etravirine-d4 usage and description
Etravirine D4, also known as TMC-125 D4, is a deuterated form of the antiretroviral drug Etravirine. Etravirine D4 is used in the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections. It belongs to the non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) class of drugs. Etravirine D4 works by inhibiting the reverse transcriptase enzyme, which is essential for the replication of HIV virus.
The chemical formula of Etravirine D4 is C20H12D4N4O3. It has a molecular weight of 376.41 g/mol. The drug is available in tablet form in the strength of 200mg.
Etravirine D4 is usually prescribed as a part of combination therapy for HIV treatment. It is taken orally, with or without food. The recommended dosage of Etravirine D4 is 200mg twice daily. The drug should not be taken with other NNRTIs or protease inhibitors as it can lead to drug interactions.
Etravirine D4 is metabolized in the liver by the cytochrome P450 enzyme system. The drug has a half-life of 40-45 hours, and its clearance is mainly through feces.
Etravirine D4 has been found to be effective in reducing viral load and increasing CD4 cell counts in HIV patients. However, like all drugs, Etravirine D4 can cause side effects such as headache, nausea, diarrhea, and rash. Patients with a history of liver disease should be monitored closely while taking this medication.
