Demethoxycurcumin (Mixture of Isomers) usage and description
Demethoxycurcumin is a natural polyphenol compound and one of the active ingredients found in the rhizomes of turmeric (Curcuma longa). It is a mixture of isomers, which means it is a combination of different structural forms of the same molecule. Demethoxycurcumin is an important derivative of curcumin, which is the most studied and well-known compound found in turmeric.
Demethoxycurcumin has a wide range of pharmacological and biological activities, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and antidiabetic properties. It has been shown to possess potent neuroprotective effects, as well as antiplatelet and antifungal activities.
Chemically, demethoxycurcumin is a diarylheptanoid, which means it contains a carbon chain with two aromatic rings attached to it. Its molecular formula is C21H20O6, and its molecular weight is 368.38 g/mol. Demethoxycurcumin has a yellow-orange color and is soluble in organic solvents like ethanol and methanol.
In terms of usage, demethoxycurcumin is commonly used as a dietary supplement and is also used in the food and cosmetic industries. It is generally considered safe and well-tolerated, but like any supplement or medication, it should be used with caution and under the guidance of a healthcare provider.
