Mono-O-acetyl Fingolimod usage and description
Mono-O-acetyl Fingolimod, also known as ponesimod, is a selective sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor 1 (S1P1) modulator used as an immunomodulatory drug. It is primarily used for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) in adult patients.
Mono-O-acetyl Fingolimod works by binding to S1P1 receptors in lymphoid tissues, thereby preventing the egress of lymphocytes from these tissues into the circulation. By doing so, it reduces the number of lymphocytes in the bloodstream, which may contribute to the reduction in MS disease activity.
The chemical formula of Mono-O-acetyl Fingolimod is C23H32FNO3, and its molecular weight is 399.5 g/mol. It is administered orally as a tablet and has a half-life of approximately 32 hours. It is metabolized in the liver and excreted primarily in the feces.
The most common side effects of Mono-O-acetyl Fingolimod include headache, diarrhea, nausea, back pain, and elevated liver enzymes. It is contraindicated in patients with severe active infections, certain heart conditions, and those taking certain medications.
In summary, Mono-O-acetyl Fingolimod is a useful immunomodulatory drug used for the treatment of relapsing forms of MS. It works by binding to S1P1 receptors in lymphoid tissues, reducing the number of lymphocytes in the bloodstream, and therefore reducing MS disease activity.
